Assessment of bird populations in major and minor wetlands of Puducherry - Study project
In pic: Flamingoes and Painted Storks at Ousteri bird sanctuary. Eris or irrigation tanks of Puducherry are a major refuge for diverse avifauna in addition to supplying ground water to the surrounding land. Major wetlands offer connectivity and serve as congregatory sites for water fowl while minor wetlands serve as seasonal refuges and breeding locations for many. Wintering and resident avian populations fluctuate with the water levels. Our wetland avifauna project assessed the diversity and populations in all major and minor wetlands during 2016-17
